At least 6 dead after slab collapses on building under construction in Pune

At least six workers have been killed and several others injured after part of a building under construction collapsed on top of them at Yerwada area in Pune late Thursday night, February 3, 2022.

According to police officials, the tragedy occurred around 11 p.m. when the slab of a shopping mall under construction collapsed at a site in Shastrinagar area of ​​Yerwada, killing six workers and trapping five or six. others.

The death toll is expected to rise, police said.

“So far, six people have been found dead and their bodies were immediately taken to Sassoon Hospital in the city. The deceased has not yet been identified. Further investigations are ongoing,” said a police inspector from Yerwada police station.

Pune, with its indiscriminate urbanization, has seen a series of accidents in recent years, where the victim has usually been the unlucky worker.

A major accident took place in the Kondhwa area of ​​the city in June 2019 when 15 workers and their relatives (including four children) were killed in a wall collapse incident.

In October 2017, three workers were killed and another seriously injured after the slab of a building under construction collapsed in the Dattawadi district of Pune.

In July 2016, nine workers were killed on the spot after a slab of a building under construction collapsed in the city’s Balewadi district.

In December 2012, no less than 13 workers were killed when a slab of a building under construction collapsed in Wagholi, 20 km from the city.

Earlier, in September of the same year, six people were killed on the spot and several others injured after a four-storey residential building collapsed in the city’s Sahakar Nagar district.
