Outpost is a cooperative shooter about building a base and fighting swarms

Sci-fi first-person shooter Outpost has a disappointing working title, but the trailer feels truly overwhelming thanks to the sheer scale of the thing. It’s about battling swarming swarms of hundreds of squid-like robots and building a base to help you out. Watch said trailer below.

Outpost is a base-building FPS that has a LOT of aliens to take down.

Now, many moons ago, I was a huge fan of Activision’s Battlezone and Pandemic Studios’ excellent follow-up to Battlezone 2: Combat Commander. Outpost seems to have a similar combat and base-building combo, which piqued my interest. You’ll need to shoot things, of course, but then you can collect resources scattered around the map to invest in building structures and characters at your home. There’s also online co-op to add to the mix.

Judging from the trailer, it looks like you’ll have to defend your “outpost” against a lot of aliens, actually. Outpost is a very generic name, so you can see why it might change before this one launches. Don’t confuse it with the other Outpost, made by Open Mid Interactive, which Ollie wasn’t a big fan of in 2020. There was also a DOS game of the same name from Sierra On-Line, and it’s definitely not that one even if it is a question of building bases in space.

No firm release date has been announced for Outpost (working title) tonight, but it will be released on Steam at some point “soon”, otherwise known as the indefinite future. Now you know the indefinite future – that’s when all those sci-fi games take place.
